Zaco Labs ("the Company") values your privacy and complies with applicable laws, including the Personal Information Protection Act of Korea. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal information is collected, used, stored, and destroyed within the Dayline service ("the Service") provided by the Company. This policy applies to both the iOS and Android apps.
1. Personal Information We Collect
The Company provides the Service without an account sign-up process, and the app does not ask you to enter information that directly identifies you, such as your name or phone number. We collect the following to provide the Service:
- Anonymous device identifier (userKey): an identifier the app creates by one-way transformation of device and installation information (a device identifier on Android, an app purchase transaction identifier on iOS), or a randomly generated value where that is unavailable. It does not identify you by name, contact details, or the like. So that the same identifier can be used after the app is reinstalled, it is kept in the device's Keychain on iOS and in Google Play services Block Store on Android.
- Device and app information: operating system type and version, device model, app version, app language, country (the region setting of your device, not location information), and the dates and times of first and most recent use
- Advertising identifier (behavioral information): IDFA on iOS and the Advertising ID (ADID) on Android (see Section 3)
- Information Google collects in the course of serving ads: your IP address and the approximate region derived from it, which ads were seen or tapped, and the like (see Section 3)
- Usage statistics and app crash diagnostics: screen navigation and feature usage records, app setting values, whether permissions are allowed, device model, OS version, app version, and the records captured when an error occurs (see Section 10)
- When you contact us: the email address you send from and the content of your inquiry
- If you use Everyone's lines: your nickname and avatar color; for a day you choose to post, the shape of its line (the shape and size of the line, without coordinates), its distance and duration, the figures for each travel mode, and its date; your caption, comments, and likes; the app language at the time you post; records of your reporting or blocking other users; and records of your posts being hidden or your use being restricted; and whether you have chosen to show your country to other users
The following information is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to the Company's servers. However, only for a day you choose to post to Everyone's lines, that day's line shape, distance, duration, figures for each travel mode, and date are transmitted. Location (coordinates), times of day, places where you stayed, and the map are never transmitted.
- Movement record: location (coordinates) and time, the path you travel, distance and duration, places where you stayed, and how you travelled (walking, running, cycling, driving)
- Motion and activity information from your device, used to tell travel modes apart
2. Purposes of Collection and Use
- Recording and showing your day's path, distance, and travel modes (processed only on the device)
- Managing Service usage via the anonymous identifier, and providing app settings such as whether ads are shown and required-update notices
- Providing personalized advertising, measuring ad performance, and preventing ad fraud
- Improving the Service, performing statistics and analysis, and fixing app errors
- Responding to customer inquiries
- Providing Everyone's lines: publishing and showing posts and nicknames; comments, likes, and notifications; translating posts; and operations such as handling reports and restricting use
3. Collection and Use of Advertising Identifiers (Behavioral Information)
To provide personalized advertising and improve the Service, the Company uses a third-party advertising platform, and an advertising identifier may be collected in this process. The app does not pass your movement record to the advertising platform.
- Behavioral information collected
- iOS: IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers)
- Android: Advertising ID (ADID, Google Advertising ID)
- Purposes of collection and use
- Providing interest-based personalized (targeted) advertising
- Analyzing ad impression and click performance and preventing ad fraud (invalid traffic)
- Collection method and third-party service
- Collected and transmitted automatically through the mobile advertising SDK included in the app.
- Collected by: Google LLC (Google AdMob; the ad consent screen is provided by Google User Messaging Platform). Google does not process this information on the Company's behalf: it collects it directly as the provider of the advertising service, and its processing is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
- Your right to opt out and how to do so
You can refuse the collection of identifiers for personalized advertising in the following ways. Even if you opt out, non-personalized (general) ads may still be shown.
- iOS: Decline the tracking request shown when you first launch the app, or go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking and turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" or turn off tracking for the specific app.
- Android: Go to Settings > Google > Ads and select "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization".
- Users in regions where consent is required for advertising, such as the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom, can make a choice on the consent screen shown when the app is first launched. In the iOS app you can change it at any time from Settings > Ad privacy.
4. Processing of Location Information and Your Movement Record
- Location and motion information is used only to create your movement record. It is processed on the device and stored only on the device. It is not transmitted to the Company's servers and is not included in usage statistics.
- When you choose a day and post it to Everyone's lines, that day's line shape, distance, duration, figures for each travel mode, and date, and the caption you write, are transmitted to the Company's servers. The line shape contains no coordinates, and the map, coordinates, and times of day are not transmitted. Records of days you do not post are not transmitted.
- Posts, comments, and nicknames in Everyone's lines are visible to every user of the Service. The date is shown to other users only on posts for which you turn on "Show the date".
- Your country (the region your device is set to; it is not determined from location information) is shown as a flag alongside your nickname in Everyone's lines and is visible to every user of the Service. If you turn off "Show my country" on the screen where you choose your nickname, it is not shown to other users.
- When you tap "See translation" on a post written in another language, it is machine-translated on equipment the Company operates itself, and the translation is kept on the server. The text of posts is not provided to any outside translation provider.
- Everyone's lines may be used only by people aged 14 or older. If the Company learns that a child under 14 has posted a nickname or posts to Everyone's lines, it deletes them without delay.
- The Home Screen widget is drawn from the records stored on the device and does not send them off the device.
- On screens that show a map, the map provider (Apple Maps on iOS, Google Maps on Android) downloads map data for the area on screen from its own servers. The map provider's data processing is subject to the Apple Privacy Policy and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Sharing an image happens only when you choose to, and it goes only where you send it.
5. Retention and Use Period
The Company retains personal information while you use the Service, and destroys it without delay once the purpose of collection and use has been achieved or you request deletion. The anonymous device identifier and the device and app information stored on the Company's servers are destroyed once one year has passed since you last used the Service. The email address and the content of a customer inquiry are kept for one year after the inquiry has been handled, and then destroyed. Deleting the app alone does not let the Company know, so if you want the information remaining on our servers deleted, please request it as described in Section 9. However, where retention is required under applicable laws, information is retained for the period those laws prescribe.
Information stored only on the device (Section 1) stays on the device until you delete it. You can remove everything with Settings > Delete all records in the app, and deleting the app removes it from the device as well. Because the Company does not hold your movement record, it cannot delete or restore it for you.
Nicknames and posts in Everyone's lines are kept on the server until you delete them, and are destroyed, together with report and block records, if there is no use for one year from the last date of use. You can delete posts and comments yourself from each post's menu, and you can delete your nickname and all your posts, comments and likes at once with Settings > Everyone's lines > Nickname > Delete profile and all posts in the app. Restrictions the Company has placed on your use, the record of them, and blocks made by other users remain. "Delete all records" in the app and deleting the app remove only the records on the device, not the posts on the server. If you cannot use the app, you may request deletion by email to the Privacy Officer, and the Company deletes them without delay on receiving the request. Notifications in the inbox are destroyed after 30 days.
The retention period of information collected by Google follows Google's data retention policy.
6. Provision to Third Parties
The Company does not provide your personal information to third parties beyond the scope specified in this policy, except where required under the provisions of law or where an investigative agency so requests for investigative purposes in accordance with the procedures and methods prescribed by law.
7. Entrustment of Personal Information Processing
The Company entrusts the following personal information processing tasks for the smooth provision of the Service:
- Vercel Inc.: server operation (server location: Seoul, Republic of Korea)
- Supabase Inc.: database operation (server location: Seoul, Republic of Korea)
- Google LLC: usage statistics analysis (Google Firebase Analytics), app crash diagnostics (Google Firebase Crashlytics), and keeping the anonymous device identifier (Android, Google Play services Block Store)
8. Transfer of Personal Information Abroad
The Company transfers personal information abroad as follows for usage statistics analysis, app crash diagnostics, and advertising.
- Recipient: Google LLC (contact: Google privacy inquiries)
- Destination countries: the United States and other countries where Google operates data centers
- Items transferred: advertising identifier, IP address, ad impression and click records, usage statistics, app crash diagnostics, device model, OS version, and app version
- Timing and method of transfer: sent over the network from time to time through the SDKs included in the app while you use it
- Purposes of use and retention period: the purposes in Sections 3 and 10, for the period under Google's data retention policy
- How to refuse and its effect: you can refuse the transfer of the advertising identifier for personalized advertising and of usage statistics through the settings in Sections 3 and 10. The information needed to show non-personalized ads and app crash diagnostics are transmitted while you use the app.
9. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them
You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or suspension of the processing of your personal information at any time. Email the address in Section 13 and the Company will take action without delay in accordance with applicable laws. Because the Company holds no information that directly identifies you, such as your name or contact details, it may ask for the information needed to confirm the device concerned in order to handle your request.
Your movement record exists only on your device, so you can view it directly in the app or delete it with Settings > Delete all records.
You can view and delete the posts and comments you made in Everyone's lines directly in the app, and you can edit a post's caption. You can change your nickname in the app's Settings. You can turn the display of your country on or off on the screen where you choose your nickname.
10. Collection of Usage Statistics via Analytics Tools
To improve Service quality, the Company uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect usage statistics. The information collected concerns usage behavior, such as screen navigation, feature use, app setting values (language, theme, view mode, and the like), whether permissions such as location and motion are allowed, whether the widget is in use, app/device version, and approximate region. It does not include your movement record, such as location (coordinates), the path you travel, or distance and duration, or information that directly identifies you, such as your name or contact details. The one exception is when you correct the travel mode of a record yourself: only which mode was changed to which is sent, without any location, time, or path. An identifier that tells installations apart is sent with usage statistics (the anonymous device identifier on iOS, a separate random identifier made for statistics on Android). You can turn usage-statistics collection on or off at any time from Settings > Usage statistics in the app.
For Everyone's lines, usage statistics include only the fact that you posted, commented, liked, reported, or blocked; they do not include the content of posts, distances, or dates.
The app may show a banner introducing another of the Company's services. Tapping the banner opens that service's web page or its app store page, and only the fact that the banner was tapped is included in usage statistics.
The Company also uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to fix unexpected shutdowns of the app. This collects the device model, OS version, app version, and the records captured when an error occurs; it does not include your movement record. These diagnostics are collected regardless of the usage-statistics setting.
Google's data processing is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and the Firebase Privacy and Security policy.
11. App Permissions
The app uses device permissions for the features below. Even if you do not allow an optional permission, you can use the Service apart from that feature.
- Location (required): used to record the path you travel. Recording without opening the app needs "Always".
- Motion & Fitness (iOS) / Physical activity (Android) (optional): used to tell walking, running, cycling, and driving apart.
- Notifications (Android, optional): used to show the notification that says recording is in progress while your movement is being recorded. No other notifications are sent.
- Add to Photos (iOS, optional): used only when you save the picture of a day to your photo library. The app does not read your photos.
- Allow app tracking (iOS, optional): used for personalized advertising.
You can change or withdraw permissions at any time in your device's Settings.
12. Measures to Ensure Security
The Company implements administrative and technical protective measures, including access-rights management, encryption of transmission sections, and access control, for the safe processing of personal information. Your movement record is not kept on the Company's servers; it is stored on your device and protected by the device's own security features, such as the device lock. Posts you make to Everyone's lines are kept on the Company's servers, and the measures above are applied to them.
13. Privacy Officer
The Company designates a Privacy Officer as follows to take overall responsibility for personal information processing and to handle user complaints and remedy damages.
14. Third-Party Services and Your Own Responsibilities
- Services run by third parties, such as websites or apps reached through an ad and the map providers, are subject to the privacy policies of their operators, and the Company is not responsible for the processing of personal information that takes place in those services. This does not apply to the tasks the Company has entrusted under Section 7.
- Once an image you share has been delivered to where you sent it, the Company cannot manage it; its use and handling from then on are the responsibility of you and the recipient.
- Posts made to Everyone's lines can be seen by other users and may be carried outside the Service, for example by screenshots. Please take care not to write personal information such as your own or another person's name, contact details, or address in captions, comments, or nicknames.
- Because your movement record is stored on your device, managing the device, including its lock settings and guarding against loss or theft, is up to you. The Company is not responsible where records are exposed through loss or theft of the device, use by another person, or the like, without intent or negligence on the Company's part.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be revised in accordance with changes in laws and Service policies. Any changes will be announced within the Service or on this page.
